PHP Editor Find text

PHP Editor provides the means to easily find and replace lines or even the whole blocks of PHP Code. Search and Replace features of PhpED complement powerfull PHP Code Explorer and PHP Code Navigator, provding the easy ways to navigate through various PHP Files. How to Find Text in PHP Editor

To find a line or the whole block of text in PHP Editor you should select Search > Find on the main PhpED menu. PHP IDE will open Find Text dialog. It has two tabs Find and Find in files. These tabs can be used to search for the text in single currently open File or in multiple files. You can learn more about Finding text in PHP Editor.
To find the required text in the current document:

  • Choose Find tab.
  • Enter the text to search for. You can enter multiple lines of text if you need to search for a block of text. To switch to multiple lines mode please check Multiline search check box.
  • Indicate whether you want the search to be case-sensitive.
  • Select whether you want the search to include only whole words that match the search text.
  • Indicate whether you want the search text to be treated as a regular expression.
  • Define the direction of the search (forward or backward).
  • Define the scope of the search (global or selected text).
  • Define the start point of the search (from cursor or entire scope).
  • Press Ok button. Alternatively you can press Enter Key in single line search mode or CTRL+Enter in Multiline mode.
Searching results will appear in the Search Results window, by default located in the right-hand bottom of the main PHP IDE window. The example of the Search use is shown here: PHP Editor Search Single file

How to find the required text in multiple files

  • Choose Find in files tab. You can also open the Find in files dialog box from the project and directory context menus on the Workspace tab.
  • Enter text to search for in file. You can enter multiple lines of text if you need to search for a block of text. To switch to multiple lines mode please check Multiline search check box.
  • Indicate whether you want the search to be case-sensitive; select whether you want the search to include only whole words that match the search text; indicate whether you want the search text to be treated as a regular expression.
  • Define whether your want to search the text in the active project, in open files only or in the specific directories.
  • Specify the directory using the Browse button if you selected to make search in directories.
  • Define the file masks to find. The setting is available for search in the active project and directories. Use the semicolon as a delimiter, e.g. *.php3;*.php5;*.inc.
  • Choose if you want to have subdirectories included or not.
  • Press Ok button. Alternatively you can press Enter Key in single line search mode or CTRL+Enter in Multiline mode.

It is possible to use regular expressions when replacing text.
